Stefan Gardefjord has been appointed as the new CEO of SSC by the Board of Directors. He succeeds Lars Persson who is moving on after serving five years as CEO. The Swedish Minister for Education (and "space minister") Jan Björklund makes his first visit to Esrange Space Center today to get a deeper understanding of SSC's activities at the base. He will get in-depth presentations both of SSC's launch services for rockets and balloons and of the satellite communication services provided by the ground station at Esrange. First MSS 6000 installation for Vietnam

The first new CASA-212 aircraft for the Vietnam Marine Police has arrived in Sweden for installation of the first of three MSS 6000 airborne maritime surveillance systems. The installation will be carried out by SAAB and SSC at Skavsta airport. As soon as the second and third aircraft are delivered, these will also be fitted with the MSS 6000.

Yesterday at 23.57 UTC, the PoGOLite balloon was launched from Esrange. Unfortunately, the balloon did not reach the planned altitude of 38 200 km and a decision to terminate the flight was made. The reason why the balloon was leaking is unknown, investigations are ongoing.
